This handbook is intended primarily to help SQGs and VSQGs (that is, busi- nesses that generate a small quantity of hazardous waste) learn about regulations that apply to them. This handbook explains only the federal requirements for hazardous waste Size: 1MB.

Managing Your Hazardous Waste: A Guide for Small Businesses This handbook provides an overview of the federal hazardous waste regulations and helps small-business owners and operators understand how best to comply with federal hazardous waste management regulations.

Responsible handling of hazardous materials protects everyone: the business owner, the employee, the customer, AND the environment. Take a few minutes to review the attached EPA Guide for Small Businesses Managing Your Hazardous Waste October_16_ to be sure your business is handling waste properly.

This handbook has been prepared by the Hazardous Waste Inspections & Compliance Unit (HWICU) of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to help small business owners and operators understand how to best comply with federal hazardous waste management regula- tions, as well as Arizona hazardous waste rules and stat- utes.

Hazardous wastes include, but are not limited to, heavy metals, toxic chemicals, oil, gasoline, paints and solvents. Hazardous waste is any waste generated from the use of a product containing a hazardous or toxic material that, if misused or improperly disposed, can release contaminants that are potentially damaging to the environment and harmful to humans and other living.

The practices recommended in these guidelines will help analytical, medical, teaching, and biotechnology labs properly manage hazardous materials and reduce dangerous waste.

The guide also helps businesses and agencies in King County decide whether their waste may be acceptable for discharge to. with federal and state hazardous waste laws and regulations.

Small quantity generators can include both large and small businesses, as well as public institutions such as schools, hospitals, clinics, universities, and communities. This handbook is a simple overview of the regulations and not intended as a substitute for the regulations.

*A fee charged on garbage/water/sewer bills funds the business hazardous waste disposal program. There is no additional fee to dispose of your hazardous waste materials through this program.

** Laboratories, medical facilities, pest control operators and other businesses that work with highly toxic or reactive chemicals (called "acutely hazardous wastes") may produce wastes with a monthly SQG. Business generated hazardous waste is not accepted through this program.

The Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program operates with a permit from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. It is permitted to accept wastes from households only, located in Blue Earth, Nicollet and Le Sueur Counties, not from businesses, non-profits or institutions.

Products should be in their original containers, and kept separate.Household Hazardous Waste are collected free of charge to the residents of Stanislaus County. The collection facility is open Friday and Saturday 8 am to 12 pm, excluding major holidays.
